The Sessions

Based on a true story, John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone) plays poet Mark O’Brien, who is paralyzed from the neck down due to polio and must spend his days inside an iron lung. When he decides he wants to lose his virginity, he talks it over with his priest (William H. Macy) and then hires a professional sex surrogate (Helen Hunt) to help him out.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Based on the novel by Stephen Chbosky, this drama follows the social trail of a shy young man (Logan Lerman) as he struggles to fit in at high school and deal with a personal tragedy in 1960s Pittsburgh. Harry Potter’s Emma Watson stars as the girl of his dreams. (eOne)

The Man With the Iron Fists

This martial arts film seems destined to sit alongside such other Grindhouse films as Planet Terror and Machete for its ability to walk that thin line between parody and homage. Musician RZA makes his directorial debut and also stars as The Blacksmith, who upon hearing that his village is to be attacked, creates unique weapons for his fellow warriors (including Lucy Liu and Russell Crowe) to protect themselves. (Universal)

Inescapable

A Syrian immigrant (Alexander Siddig) is forced to return to his native country after 30 years when his journalist daughter disappears. With no one else to turn to, he enlists the help of an ex-girlfriend (Marisa Tomei) and a government official (Joshua Jackson).

A Liar’s Autobiography: The Untrue Story of Monty Python’s Graham Chapman

Graham Chapman narrates this documentary of his own life from beyond the grave. Using his reading of his own 1980 audio book version of his autobiography, filmmakers Bill and Ben Productions gathered together over a dozen different animation studios and the remaining Python members to flesh out the exciting and often bizarre tales of Chapman’s short, but wild life. Mimesis: Night of the Living Dead

This frighteningly funny film is an homage to the Romero horror classic, while creating its own thrills and chills as a group of friend’s gather to play a role-playing game based on the film and end up the unwilling participants in a real fight for their lives. (Anchor Bay)

Horrid Henry: The Movie

An all-star cast of British comic actors (including Prunella Scales, Jo Brand, Noel Fielding) team up with classic thespians Anjelica Huston and Richard E. Grant for this live-action adaptation of the popular children’s book series about an obnoxious boy who must team up with his next-door-nemesis Moody Margaret when he forgets to turn his homework in. (Kaboom)

The Jungle Book: The Movie

Not to be confused with the Disney classic, this short (barely an hour long) CGI-animated film tells the story of Mogli and his wild animal pals based on the stories by Rudyard Kipling. (Kaboom)

Mike the Knight: Galahad the Great

These are two hour-long collections of the cartoon series about the young medieval knight and his friends which runs on the Treehouse channel here in Canada. Great fun for younger kids. (Kaboom)
