This week on DVD, James Bond returns in Skyfall, one of the best Bond flicks in history
It’s the 50th anniversary of the film franchise and James Bond (Daniel Craig) is back in action. This time he is going up against a villain (Javier Bardem) who has a personal vendetta against M (Judi Dench) and plans to destroy MI6. In this sequel to the film (and the on-going video game franchise on which it is based), teenage Heather (Adelaide Clemens) discovers that she is not who she thinks she is. When her father (Sean Bean) disappears, she ventures into another dimension of the town of Silent Hill to learn about her past where she encounters all sorts of unbelievable evil.
Based on a true story, John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone) plays poet Mark O’Brien, who is paralyzed from the neck down due to polio and must spend his days inside an iron lung. When he decides he wants to lose his virginity, he talks it over with his priest (William H. Macy) and then hires a professional sex surrogate (Helen Hunt) to help him out.
Based on the novel by Stephen Chbosky, this drama follows the social trail of a shy young man (Logan Lerman) as he struggles to fit in at high school and deal with a personal tragedy in 1960s Pittsburgh. Harry Potter’s Emma Watson stars as the girl of his dreams. (eOne)

Musician RZA makes his directorial debut and also stars as The Blacksmith, who upon hearing that his village is to be attacked, creates unique weapons for his fellow warriors (including Lucy Liu and Russell Crowe) to protect themselves. A Syrian immigrant (Alexander Siddig) is forced to return to his native country after 30 years when his journalist daughter disappears. With no one else to turn to, he enlists the help of an ex-girlfriend (Marisa Tomei) and a government official (Joshua Jackson).

These are two hour-long collections of the cartoon series about the young medieval knight and his friends which runs on the Treehouse channel here in Canada. Great fun for younger kids. (Kaboom)

This supernatural series (based on the British hit of the same name) which mixes, horror, comedy and drama stars Sam Whitwer, Sam Huntington and Meaghan Rath as roommates who also happen to be a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire which causes all sorts of bloody trouble both inside and outside of the house. In the mid-1970s, Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson must’ve been in the Top Ten of teenage TV heartthrobs for their portrayals of the classic crime-detecting brothers made famous decades earlier in a series of books. They’re a little older in this incarnation and in this third and final series the boys have taken up trouble-seeking professionally as they join the Justice Department.
