Ilse Jacobsen's funky gum boots for the fashion-forward Vancouver puddle jumper

If your inner punk can’t stand getting wet feet in Vancouver downpours but gags at the thought of cutesy, rubber-duck rain boots, rest assured: Danish designer Ilse Jacobsen has heard your pain.

The former political science major and restaurateur has fashioned the ultimate rubber boots, a cross between the iconic Doc Marten lace-ups and the hunter-green wellingtons favoured by royalty. These boots are made from 100 percent natural rubber and are lined with cotton fleece.

“I like the unprocessed materials,” says Jacobsen, who designs from an area north of Copenhagen known for its white, sandy beaches. “You don’t get that awful stench that you get with rubber boots that are made from PVC.”

Try black, white or camel for simple sophistication on a night out on the town, or make a playful statement and stand out in the rain with electric brights like pink, yellow or lime. You may want it to start raining all the time.

The boots range in price from $149 to $279.
