That’s right. Ben Wheeler, the main character on ABC’s hit sitcom Baby Daddy, is Vancouver’s own Jean Luc Bilodeau. A graduate of Holy Cross Regional High School in Surrey, B.C., J-Biddy, as he’s often called, was previously a dancer but left his dancing shoes behind after his film career started to require more of his time. Bilodeau is priceless as the young Wheeler whose carefree life is turned upside down when a baby is left on his doorstep by an ex-girlfriend. With support from family and friends, Wheeler’s introduction to fatherhood will have you doubled over laughing.
Behind the hunky superhero Arrow is the real brains of the operation: Felicity Smoak, who is played beautifully by Vancouverite Emily Bett Richards. A skilled hacker responsible for the retrieving in-field information, breaking into databases, Richards is a young IT whizz who is never afraid of dangerous situations. She attended Vancouver Film School and will once again kick some serious butt in the upcoming fifth season of Arrow.
Con artists, clones, and a whole lot of scary, hit series Orphan Black is just about everything you can ask for from a sci-fi thriller. And, if that weren’t enough, the show’s dreamy Paul Dierden is played by Vancouver-born Dylan Bruce. Bruce was raised in Boundary Bay before moving to the U.S. to pursue his post secondary education and acting career — but he’ll always be a Vancouverite to us.
Recognize him as the handsome but ruthless Cato from the first Hunger Games? Yup, he’s from Vancouver and he’s starring in History Channel’s Vikings! This action-packed adventure series follows the exploits of Viking chief Ragnar Lothrok as he rises to become king of the Viking tribes. Ludwig plays Ragnar’s first born son and formidable warrior Bjorn.
Enjoy historical fantasy flicks with just the right amount of romance? If so, make sure you starting tuning into Reign, featuring Torrance Coombs. Another talented Actor from Vancouver, Coombs plays the role of Sebastian, the illegitimate son of the King of France in this fictionalized series about the early exploits of Mary Queen of Scots. Coombs was enrolled in the UBC acting program, and appeared in many of Bard on the Beach’s productions.
