Grow healthy citrus fruit using this great organic DIY plant food recipe.
To produce glossy foliage, fragrant blooms and juicy fruit, citrus plants require a diet rich in nitrogen and full of trace minerals. Since you will want to eat the fruit, it is most important to grow it organically. Pre-mixed organic citrus foods are available in both liquid and granular forms, but if you want to mix your own, try this easy recipe: 11⁄2 cups (375 mL) alfalfa 1⁄4 cup (60 mL) fish bone meal 1⁄4 cup (60 mL) kelp meal 1⁄4 cup (60 mL) rock dust Mix all ingredients and apply at a rate of 1⁄2 cup (125 mL) blended mixture per 8-L (2-gallon) pot.
