Q: I’ve noted in some of your recipes for mulches etc. that you call for rock phosphate and also green sand. What are they, and can you sub something else? If not, where can you purchase them? I live in 100 Mile and sometimes have a hard time finding things here, but I usually do come to the Coast in May.
Rock phosphate and green sand are naturally occurring minerals that add nutrients to our soils. They can be purchased where Gaia Green products are sold (garden centres), and perhaps ordered online from West Coast Seeds. I have also had good luck sourcing them in bulk from feed stores, such as Buckerfield’s.
