We ask Global BC Morning News Anchor Sophie Lui to play tour guide – find out where she eats, shops and hangs out in Yaletown
“Yaletown is beautiful and full of life. I love the parents and their little ones in their super trendy strollers. I love the retired guys who meet every day for coffee and watch the world go by. I love the empty-nesters who have downsized and moved here from the suburbs. I love the urbanites who refuse to let Vancouver’s high real estate prices drive them out of town. I love that I know my neighbours. I love the dogs who make themselves right at home on the sidewalk and are just as important to the neighbourhood as their owners are. I love that people from all over Metro Vancouver come here on the weekend to visit and I just have to walk out my front door.
“I don’t like that people think Yaletown is pretentious and snobby. I used to think that too until I moved here five years ago. Now I know that stereotype couldn’t be further from the truth.”

“The Blue Water Cafe on Hamilton is my happy place and their service is outstanding. I love the pasta at La Pentola in the Opus Hotel (pictured), the Brussels sprouts at The Flying Pig on Hamilton (also, the owners are just really nice guys), Minami on Mainland for the Salmon Aburi, Cactus Club on Davie for the Rocket Salad and Bella Gelateria on Marinaside for the gelato (it’s dangerously close to my place).”
“The Wine Bar at Provence (pictured) on Marinaside has a big wine list, great service and good daily deals on food and wine. And if you don’t feel like wine, they make great cocktails too.”
“I frequent BeautyMark (pictured) on Pacific to stock up on beauty products, Swirl Wine on Mainland for its wide variety of wines and Urban Fare on Davie for their great selection of food.”
“I love the Seawall for a run or a walk, and the various green spaces along it where I can sun myself and read.”
