Hike the BCMC trail in a show of support for victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy
Here’s a local way to send some help to victims of the Boston Marathon bombings
My thoughts go out to the victims, their families and the people of Boston. It’s impossible to comprehend these acts of senseless violence and the pain they cause. Like many people, I feel a mixture of emotions – disbelief, anger, sadness.
As a runner I was particularly concerned about a number of local runners doing the race. Thankfully, all the runners I knew from B.C. who were running the Boston Marathon were safe.
While we may be physically unable to help, Graham Snowden, a local runner, has organized an event to send some aid to the victims in Boston and to show our support for the victims and city of Boston.
On Wednesday, April 17 at 5:30 pm, runners and non-runners alike will gather to hike the BCMC for Boston.
The BCMC trail parallels the Grouse Grind. The BCMC trail can be quite technical in spots and there is still snow at higher elevations so come prepared.
This isn’t a race but more of an informal gathering. People will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Grouse Mountain resort free parking lot. For more information and to ask questions, visit the BCMC for Boston Facebook page.
In addition to symbolic support, participants are also encouraged to make a donation to the Boston Red Cross online. The suggested donation amount is $20, but people are free to donate whatever they can.
