Connecticut King

Lilium ‘Connecticut King’ has been the top commercial yellow lily since its introduction in 1967. A famous cut flower, garden plant and parent of notable offspring, it features upward-facing, clear-yellow blossoms atop one-metre stems. ‘Connecticut King’ is an Asiatic hybrid lily, its colour due mainly to Lilium lancifolium var. flaviflorum, a Japanese native. Hybrid lilies are splendid in containers and can remain undisturbed for years. Choose a large, heavy pot to prevent toppling in strong winds. Fertilize and top-dress with compost each spring. In zones 5 and colder, move the pot into an area protected from bitter cold in winter.
