eatART generates awareness about alternative energy through community-wide dance party.
Hilary Henegar
In case you missed it, eatART, the Vancouver-based collective “Energy Awareness Through ART,” was at it again, showcasing their neato alt-energy systems through a pedal- and solar-powered fundraiser-slash-dance party at the Vancouver Art Gallery, June 7, 2009.
To keep the music blasting, eight teams of three riders put their back into powering a mini-generator that was connected to the sound system, where a DJ spun the tunes to keep them and onlookers pedalling and dancing. Meanwhile, eatART’s solar-powered mega-tricycle Daisy powered the art workshop tents and info booth, and mini-solar-panelled tanks patrolled the venue, making friends with anyone in their path.
Besides generating awareness about alternative energy through a fun, community-wide dance party in the heart of Vancouver’s downtown, the event was also a fundraiser to support the collective’s ongoing projects.
