The Canühome demo project showcases sustainable building done right.
As its innovative spelling suggests, the Canühome is much more than just a home shaped like an upside-down canoe. It also poses a challenge to potential homeowners and renovators: “Can YOU make a difference?”
A full-sized demo of a sustainable home of the future, the Canühome was on display at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre last December. The demonstration project, led by Canadian Mortgage and Housing and a host of partners, aims to showcase sustainable building products and furnishings.
The 850-square-foot modular house is made from FSC-certified wood and ticks all the green boxes, with its Energy Star appliances, a grey water capture-and-release system, low-flow toilets, high-efficiency windows, solar-thermal hot water panels, and more.
