Art-house films are great too, but where do you go on the Drive for the box office hits?

On the Drive and just around the corner from the Rio Theatre, VanEast Cinema provides the neighbourhood with its mainstream movie fix. VanEast sidesteps the overrated frills and gawky design of the larger chain theatres while still delivering box office hits on their two screens.

VanEast is Commercial Drive’s answer to experiencing Hollywood cinema the indie way; peach drink, balcony seating and all.

Seats up top will cost you a dollar more, but coupled with already good prices, it’s worth it for the bird’s eye view. And everything you need to snack on—even ice cream for those hot summer nights—is stashed behind the concession counter, waiting to be devoured. Be sure to bring more than a wallet full of plastic though, the concession is cash only.
