This week on DVD: The HBO original movie Hemmingway and Gellhorn starring Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman
This HBO drama covers the thrilling and tempestuous relationship between legendary writer Ernest Hemingway (Clive Owen) and journalist Martha Gellhorn (Nicole Kidman) who first met in 1936 when they were both covering the Spanish Civil War and follows over the next decade of their lives together.
In this big-screen reboot of the classic British crime series, Ray Winstone plays Jack Regan, the leader of an elite “flying squad” of the police that specializes in armed robberies who goes against the orders of his boss (Homeland’s Damian Lewis) to bring down the Serbian criminals who robbed a jewelry store and killed a civilian.
Based on the best-selling book by David Wong, this wild horror-comedy from director Don Coscarelli (Bubba Ho-Tep) follows slacker David (Chase Williamson) as he chronicles his experiences with his friend John (Rob Mayes) and a strange mind-altering street drug known as “soy sauce”.
Director and cinematographer Peter Mettler has created this philosophical and visually stunning contemplation of the meaning of time that is reminiscent of films like Koyaanisqatsi.
TV ON DVD:
Reality show executive producer Mark Burnett (Survivor and his wife Roma Downey (Touched By an Angel) produced this 10-part dramatization of the bible – at least of some of the highlights – including Noah and his ark, the birth of Jesus and his crucifixion with a cast of largely unknown actors and cutting-edge special effects. All 10 episodes are on this 4-disc set. (Fox)
