Run by PEDAL, a non-profit organization that promotes the use of “pedal-powered technology,” Our Community Bikes is a full-service bike shop where you can either have an expert mechanic fix your bike, do it yourself or learn how from one of the many skilled mentors on the shop floor.
Our Community Bikes first opened in 1993 and was a project of BEST (Better Environmentally Sound Transportation), a local bike and sustainable transportation advocacy group. Not much has changed since the early days (except now it is operated under PEDAL).
Our Community Bikes wanted to provide a DIY shop for bike repairs and a recycling service for Vancouver cyclists. And it still does. But it also offers workshops on bike mechanics and work experience and occupational therapy sessions for people in need from local social service agencies.
Best of all, the rates are more than reasonable, the atmosphere congenial, and the staff patient and willing to do just about whatever it takes to help you build the bike of your dreams, just as long as you’re keen.
True to its roots, Our Community Bikes helps Vancouver cyclists do what they love—bike and fix bikes!
