Hair Experts Reveal 5 Ways to Update Your Look for Spring 2017

If you're ready to switch up your hairstyle, here are five ways to get fresh this season

This year is all about an effortless hair vibe

Hairstylist Phuong Tran and colour designer Alex DiCaire from Suki’s Salon, reveal five ways to freshen up your look this season, featuring au naturel styles that work day or night…

1. Play with texture

Experiment with your hair using texture, both stylists advise. Instead of over-styling, embrace what your hair does naturally, whether it’s straight, wavy or curly. For straight hair, try super-smooth looks inspired by Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner. If you have wavy or curly hair, go natural with a messy tousled style.

2. Go warm and natural

“It’s all about the warmth” says Alex about the latest hair colours. For brunettes, “we’re stepping away from the cool, icy tones” and introducing rich “toffee” brown colours. If you’re blonde, try a buttery blonde tone this year, or try “bronde,” a mixture of light brown and blonde. If you’re a redhead, try a copper colour for the ultimate natural look.

3. Make some tweaks

Want to update your look? It can just take “a few tweaks here and there” says Phoung. Try parting your hair in the middle instead of the side. This look is especially in style this year due the influence of the Kardashian clan. Another way to tweak your look is by growing out your bangs to create a side bang that will complement a variety of hairstyles.

4. Update your colour

Ombre’s popularity is fading out and a more natural look is sweeping in. To create a sun-kissed effect, hairstylists use a technique called balayage where they paint on highlights and lowlights freestyle, from top to bottom. Find your dream balayage style by drawing inspiration from celebrities like Chrissy Teigan, Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Biel.

5. Be blunt

Allow your short shag to grow out into a collarbone lob. This look is versatile and makes it easy to change your style day-to-day advises Phoung. For longer hair, try a blunt cut, but include “layers in the interior” to create a dynamic look.
