Vancouver Fashion Week returned bigger and better than ever

With a change of scenery and a new-found confidence, Vancouver Fashion Week saw one of its best presentations to date. From the LWD to futuristic metallics, romantic sheers, and embellished accessories, here are some of the most prominent Spring/Summer 2015 trends featured at VFW.

All in the Details

If there’s one trend you need to know for Spring/Summer 2015, it’s ornate details.   Laser-cut lace is a fresh take on a classic fabric and features a larger print that varies in design and detailing. Beaded embellishments and romantic appliqués, brocade accessories and intricate head pieces all made quite the statement on the runway and could easily be recreated for everyday.

All-white Everything

Looks like this year’s summer whiteout isn’t going anywhere.  From sheath dresses and sexy power suits, to sporty separates and detailed frocks, this easily recreatable trend is sure to be all the rage. Just remember to also invest in a tide-to-go pen!

A Bright Future

Imagine a look that could be plucked right out of a scene of the fictional Capital of Panem in The Hunger Games. We’re talking blue lips, psychedelic patterns and iridescent metallics. As we’re seeing more rainbow bright/pastel coloured hair, this bold trend is clearly all about having fun!. For a toned down version, go for a shiny metallic accessory.

On The Fringe

Whether it’s just an unfinished piece of fabric hanging, like those seen at the Aaizel show, or full on fringe, this playful trend gets even better with movement. And this doesn’t have to be limited to hippie chic – for everyday wear, go for a business casual skirt or dress with fringe detailing.

Sheer Delight

This versatile trend was seen throughout (pun intended) the VFW shows. We saw peekaboo sheer accents, layers upon layers of sheer, as well as different sheer fabrics with delicate detailing. There’s no doubt that see-through will be must-have next spring.

Full Circle

Hold on tight to those party-worthy skirts:  full circle skirts dominated the runways. Whether it was mini or tea length, this is one spring/summer staple that you’ll get tons of wear out of.

Cream Of The Crop

If there was one common theme at this year’s show, it was most definitely a bare midriff. A trend that is more wearable than you may think, try pairing a cropped top with a high-waisted skirt or trousers.
