Natural wool pillows are temperature-regulating and dust mite resistant.
Part of a series of reviews on natural-fibre pillows by Carmen Spagnola
Natural wool pillows are a good option for folks who are interested in procuring their goods a little closer to home.
Not only is natural wool temperature-regulating—warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer—it is also not chemically treated. As a result, the wool retains a very high lanolin content making it also quite dust mite resistant.
One draw back I have found to wool is that it will lose at least half of its loft within the first month, so they are more suitable for people who prefer a flatter pillow, unless you are prepared to layer a couple of them.
One variation which I found to ameliorate this problem, at least somewhat, is the alpaca wool-filled pillow. Alpaca wool is a hollow fibre, which means that it can be handwashed with care and more easily re-fluffed than sheep’s wool, too.
Crescent Moon Duvets in Kelowna sells alpaca wool pillows and will ship.
