Enjoy sweet treats without the guilt

Choose these healthier sweet treats to satisfy sugar cravings

Do you often find yourself craving something sweet? Try to resist the urge to down a doughnut, whipped-cream-topped coffee drink or chocolate bar.

Here are some healthy ways to satisfy your sugar craving without adding extra pounds.

Healthier Sweet Treats

  • Instead of candy, try: Raisins, dried apricots or cranberries, fresh fruit including berries with light whipped topping, grapes, apple slices with peanut butter
  • Instead of cookies, try: Caramel rice cakes, arrowroot cookies, graham wafers
  • Instead of soda pop, try: 100% fruit juice mixed with soda water
  • Instead of chocolate, try: Granola bar or trail mix with chocolate, fruit with a few chocolate chips, low-fat chocolate pudding or chocolate milk
  • Instead of cake, try: Angel food cake with berries and light whipped topping
  • Instead of ice cream, try: Low-fat ice cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet.

Watch Your Calories with Sweet Treats

Even healthy sweets can be high in calories, so watch portions carefully.

Also, note that nutritious dried fruits can stick to your teeth, so brush or rinse thoroughly after eating them.
