Decor tips from local experts, stylishly upcycled chairs and a pop-up marketplace are just some of this year's show highlights
Design enthusiasts and DIY renovators, take note: the Vancouver Home + Design Show returns this Thursday, October 22 to Sunday, October 25 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West with a flock of superstar talent, expert insiders, and more than 325 exhibitors in tow.
Click through for our must-see exhibits and events.
Get the lowdown on creating a beautiful home at the Main Stage, where a star-studded roster of interior design and decor experts will share their tips for selling, styling, and renovating your home. Presenters include Love It or List It Vancouver’s Jillian Harris and Todd Talbot, Open House Overhaul’s Samantha Pynn, and Game of Homes’ Cheryl Torrenueva, plus local designers, Jamie Banfield, Christine Friend, and Sarah Gallop.
Now in its third year, the Ultimate Upcycle Challenge: Take A Seat combines design and do-good in a showcase of pre-loved chairs that have been stylishly recovered by some of Vancouver’s top tastemakers. Peruse upcycled seats from ReStore (each the result of a small budget, Rust-Oleum products and a dose of design-savvy) by CTV’s Norma Reid and Nicolle Hodges, Global BC’s Leigh Kjekstad, blogger Christie Lohr, and more. Bid on your favourite chair in a silent auction that will see all proceeds benefitting the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Vancouver.
Who says you have to sacrifice style for energy efficiency? Get an eyeful of energy-saving design—and learn how to lower your own hydro bills—with the BC Hydro Power Smart Dream Home. This stunning living space, put together by local designer Jamie Banfield, will marry contemporary trends with energy conservation.
Renovation plans wreaking havoc on your home? Bring your design woes to Ask A Designer, where the Friendly Decorator herself, Christine Friend, will dish out expert advice in a complimentary one-on-one consultation. From paint chip concerns to flooring dilemmas, consider your most troubling decorating issues solved—all in less than 10 minutes.
Kick back and relax at Ottoman Empire, an exhibit of footrests-turned-coffee-tables that’s sure to inspire your next space-saving project. Expect a range of stylish ottomans from local retailers like Mint Interiors, 18Karat and Peridot. Each of them can play double-duty in your living space thanks to the power (and versatility) of a simple tray.
Shop your favourite locally made names and discover new finds at Portobello West, a pop-up marketplace dedicated to the city’s best (and emerging) artists, designers, and makers. From vintage-inspired greeting cards from Firefly Notes to delicate, handmade jewellery by Laughing Sparrow, expect a wide range of expertly crafted goods that are made to last.
