How to Incorporate 2015 Paint Trends into Your Home

Designer Sarah Gallop picks the perfect rooms for today's trendiest colours

Which colour for which room? Designer Sarah Gallop plays matchmaker with Benjamin Moore’s new paint palette

If you’ve been undecided on what colour to repaint your walls, Benjamin Moore has just made things easy.

The paint giant unveiled its ‘Colour of the Year’ today, a silvery green called Guilford Green, as part of its 2015 colour trends palette.

Taking cues from trends in fashion and the arts, Benjamin Moore curated a trends palette that celebrates the monochromatic, using warm, cool, dark and light layers of the same hue to create unified, yet distinctive looks in each room.

To help translate the 2015 colour trends onto your walls, local interior designer Sarah Gallop shares her top picks for what colour goes where and which fixtures, colours and accessories will complement them in your home.

Benjamin Moore’s 2015 Colour of the Year: Guildford Green

Room: Bedroom

“This colour would be beautiful in a bedroom, and could be accented with white decorative wall panelling and furniture,” says Gallop. “Chrome and crystal accents and white linen shades on lighting would create an elegant space. Crisp white bedding with blue, yellow and green pillows would keep the room feeling bright and fresh.”

Room: Kitchen

“This bold blue would be a perfect show-stopping island colour,” says the designer. “Paired with classic white cabinetry on the perimeter, and white counters with a hint of blue (something like Okite Bianco Carrara), warm wood floors in a mid-tone brown, antique brass fixtures and oiled-rubbed bronze hardware.”

Colour: Halo

Room: Family/Great Room

“This soft silver would be a great wall colour in a great room,” says Gallop. “With a warm mid-tone brown hardwood floor and a warm white wool and silk area rug, a charcoal sofa with lime green and teal accent pillows would work nicely. Traditionally styled chrome and glass end tables and a patterned lime, tea, and navy ottoman would make for a fun casual space.”

Room: Mud Room

“This colour would work amazingly well in a rustic relaxed mud room with a worn, tumbled stone floor, and rough wood furniture pieces — a bench, coat rack,etc.,” says Gallop. “Wicker baskets and apple-green accents would make this a cozy, inviting space.”

Room: Bathroom

“This soft green with blue undertones would be beautiful on thick, heavy moulding in a traditional bathroom,” says Gallop. “Baseboard, chair rail, window casing, crown mouldings as the focal point and paired with soft white walls and natural stone in white and grey. Chrome fixtures would add some sparkle to a classic, yet interesting space.”
