Q: Can I grow garlic from the garlic I buy in the grocery store? I have some that I think has gone to seed. I would like to try to grow it in a container to start.
Actually, now is a great time to plant garlic outside, Carroll, if you would prefer that to using a container. Generally, I purchase seed garlic for growing, but when I haven’t had any handy, I’ve bought organic garlic from my local market and planted it with good results.
So if you want to plant your sprouting garlic, go ahead, it should do fine! Simply separate the individual cloves and plant each one with the root end about 5 cm (2 in.) deep and 15 cm (6 in.) apart in your container or garden.
