Leeks

‘Durabel’ leeks are one of my favourite varieties for fall and winter harvests. They are not always easy to find commercially, but being as they are an open-pollinated variety, I save seeds of them for future harvests. Even when snow is on the ground, I harvest succulent leeks for dinner, which we love to eat simply steamed or with a creamy sauce. We especially prize winter leeks for hearty leek and potato soup, into which I also add celeriac root.
