From must-see attractions to outdoor adventures and more, discover and explore the best B.C. has to offer

Whether you grew up on the West Coast, have recently moved here, or are just planning to visit, there’s no doubt you’ve got a bunch of adventures you can’t wait to cross off your bucket list. To help you prioritize, we’re sharing some of our must-do B.C. experiences so you don’t miss out.

Experience: Explore the beach and water activities at Tribune Bay Park

Location: St. Johns Point Road, Hornby Island

How to get there: Four hours and 45 minutes from Vancouver; View route here

Bucket list factor: If you’re looking for a slice of paradise without leaving the province this summer, this spot off Hornby Island is the prime location. Nicknamed B.C.’s very own ‘Little Hawaii’, Tribune Bay boasts a crescent-shaped beach with white sand and clear blue water. Besides tanning and shoreside activities, you can enjoy water sports like swimming and canoeing. If you’re looking to do some hiking, there is also a trail that runs parallel to the beach for about 0.75 km.

Other activities in the area:

  • Take a yacht tour along Tribune Bay and beyond with Hornby Island Sailing. You have the option to sit back and relax, or get hands-on and learn how to helm and sail trim the boat if you wish to. The tour can accommodate a maximum of five people for a three- to four-hour outing and includes a charcuterie board and cold water (bring your own booze). Fees vary depending on the number of participants.
  • If you’re visiting the area with a group of friends or family, you can enjoy a full day of planned outdoor fun at the Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Centre. This centre offers retreats and activities around Tribune Bay Park for larger parties like business teams and school groups. Some activities include hikes, obstacle courses and campfire programs. Contact the centre in advance to plan out activities best suited for your party.
  • Imagine waking up to a summer breeze, with a view of Hornby Island’s blue waters in front of you. You can book a camping spot at Tribune Bay Campsite to make this dream a reality. The private campground is adjacent to Tribune Bay Park and offers 115 drive-in sites. Since water conservation efforts are in place at the campgrounds, organizers ask visitors to bring their own drinking water. Coin-operated showers are also available on-site for $2 per two minutes.
