Experience: Scandinave Spa
Cost: From $90
Location: 8010 Mons Road, Whistler
Bucket list factor: Whistler’s Scandinave Spa might not exactly be a hidden gem, but it’s a must-do if you’re heading to the mountains for a relaxing getaway, especially as we enter the fall/winter season. Trust us when we say that there’s nothing better than soaking in one of the outdoor baths while enjoying the views of snowcapped mountains.
Offering traditional Scandinavian baths, the spa’s rustic installations are dedicated to the practice of hydrotherapy and are nestled on the edge of the Lost Lake Park spruce and cedar forest. Its stunning, natural environment offers a peaceful space for guests to relax, and the strict no-phones policy means you’ve got no choice but to lock your smartphone away and disconnect from life—at least for a couple of hours anyway. Scandinave’s tech-free environment encourages silence so that all guests can enjoy the hydrotherapy experience and find inner stillness, leading to complete relaxation.
An age-old Finnish tradition, hydrotherapy dates back thousands of years and is an effective way of releasing tension in both the body and mind. The cycle of hot, cold and relax is proven to both energize and rest the body, improving blood circulation and activating the lymphatic system to help detoxification. It also actively promotes the release of endorphins, also known as the “well-being hormones”.
Visitors to the spa can take full advantage of all relaxation areas, including eucalyptus steam baths, a wood-burning sauna, Nordic showers, hammocks, solariums and multiple outdoor fire pits. The opportunities to relax and refresh are endless. And if you really need to de-stress, Scandinave’s VIP spa packages include massages and you can choose from Swedish relaxation, deep-tissue, restorative and so much more.
Note: Walk-in access is always available, but if the baths are at capacity, guests can enter the waitlist online or in person and be notified when the spa is able to welcome them. If you purchase a VIP massage package, spa entry is included and needs to be pre-booked.
