An unfortunate outcome of 2020 has been the unforeseen cancellation of highly anticipated international travel plans. It will undoubtedly be a while before we can safely and comfortably travel again, but fortunately for us, being stuck in a province as beautiful as B.C. is not such a bad situation. It may not be an exotic trip to Italy, but our local town of Langley offers a few great experiences that resemble international tourist attractions
An unfortunate outcome of 2020 has been the unforeseen cancellation of highly anticipated international travel plans. It will undoubtedly be a while before we can safely and comfortably travel again, but fortunately for us, being stuck in a province as beautiful as B.C. is not such a bad situation. It may not be an exotic trip to Italy, but our local town of Langley offers a few great experiences that resemble international tourist attractions.
Here are a few ways that you can locally enjoy that missed trip to Italy…
Let’s be honest, the real reason we all want to go to Italy is to eat. Pizza, pasta and the finest wines—what more could you ask for? Local restaurant The Italian Osteria & Cheesebar brings an authentic Italian experience to your own backyard at a great value. From hand-tossed thin-crust pizzas to a vast selection of the finest cheeses, The Osteria gives you a taste of a true Italian meal without having to pay for the flight to Europe. From the moment you step inside, you will be swept up in an Italian welcome—benvenuto and buon appetito!
Why stand amongst crowds when you can visit the sights of Rome from the comfort of your own home? Take advantage of the Rome virtual tours and visit popular sights and tourist attractions. Our recommendation? Grab yourself an Italian treat so that you can sit back, relax and immerse yourself in a full day of sightseeing. Enjoy a scoop of fresh, authentic Gelato from Maria’s Gelato, located in Fort Langley. Cold treats not your thing? No problem. La Foccacia Bakery offers authentic, freshly baked Italian goods—serving everything from apricot tarts to rosemary focaccia with a side of balsamic dipping oil. Perfect to enjoy while browsing some of history’s most famous locations.
You don’t need to be in Venice to spend a day on the water. Rent a kayak (or two) and head to Salmon River in Langley. Salmon River offers winding views through some of the most beautiful local scenery. Approximately 10 km and six hours long, this day trip offers a beautiful escape for all nature lovers. Catch a glimpse of a wild heron, eagle or family of ducks while making your way across the river bend. Salmon River is a historic part of the Fort Langley community, previously used by First Nations groups and early settlers.
Italy and good wine go hand in hand. Lucky for us, we live close to some of B.C.’s finest vineyards and wineries. Family-owned and -operated, Glasshouse Winery offers a rich selection of both red and white wine—locally grown and produced. Glasshouse is just one of the many recommended stops on the Campbell Valley wine trail. Hire a shuttle and enjoy the local offerings. Did you know that there are eight local wineries to choose from? That’s something we can all toast. Salute!
