Vancouver is alive this holiday season with an assortment of food events and activities that promise delicious and festive eats.
If you’re not too busy with holiday parties and family get-togethers, check out our little roundup of what’s happening in and around Vancouver this month. A few of these events just might give you some gift ideas, too.
December 1 to 24 – Vancouver Christmas Market
The plaza at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre is alive with the sound of… Christmas! The annual Vancouver Christmas Market, a traditional German Christmas market, has the foodstuffs to get you feeling festive, including traditional fruit stollen, German sausages and Feuerzangenbowle—a boozy German drink that you light on fire.
December 1 to January 8 – Taste Vancouver Food Tours’ Christmas Culinary Events
Take a festive 10-stop tour through Gastown, led by Gassy Jack himself. Step into one of the neighbourhood’s celebrated eateries to warm up with the likes of lobster mac and cheese or Carolina-style pulled-pork, and then carry on as your guide leads you through the cobbled streets and divulges juicy details from Gastown’s storied past.

December 7 – Pan Pacific Vancouver Christmas Wish Breakfast
If this year is anything like the last, the Pan Pacific will serve over 25,000 eggs and 20,000 sausages at the 24th annual Christmas Wish Breakfast, a toy drive benefitting the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau. Come with an unwrapped toy or cash donation and the hotel will treat you to a hot buffet breakfast from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
December 7 – Michel Roux’s ‘Desserts’ cookbook launch at Thierry
Thierry Busset, the man behind the newly-opened chocolaterie, patisserie and cafe on Alberni Street, worked under Michel Roux as pastry chef at London’s Le Gavroche, and now chef Roux comes to the Thierry cafe to celebrate the release of his newest cookbook, Desserts. The $75 ticket gets you an exquisite assortment of desserts inspired by both chefs, as well as bubbly and a signed copy of the book.
December 10 – Baker’s Market
Head down to the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre for the Baker’s Market this Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., to peruse a smorgasbord of locally-made baked goods prepared by every kind of enthusiast, from home cooks to professional bakers.
