We're showcasing Vancouver's best restaurants and special menu items—and why they should be your next meal
Restaurant: Honey Salt
Location: 39 Smithe Street, Vancouver
The Dish: The winter menu
The Details: If you haven’t been down to farm-to-table favourite Honey Salt in a while, it’s time to make a reservation. Executive chef Johann Caner’s winter menu is full of comfort food that’ll warm your belly and make you forget how miserable the weather is outside.
The new dishes are regionally inspired, locally sourced and “showcase the full bounty of B.C.” Highlights include the Cheddar and Truffle Potato Skins with smoked bacon, caramelized onion, sour cream, aged cheddar and winter black truffles; the Tofino Fry with calamari, shrimp, sweet peppers and spicy Japanese mayonnaise; Kim’s Arugula and Artichoke Salad with prosciutto, sun-dried tomato, Manchego cheese and hazelnuts with a lemon vinaigrette; Maple Hill Chicken with truffle jus, roasted heirloom carrots, kale and roasted pepper mac ‘n’ cheese; plus a Chinook salmon chowder with fresh mussels, smoked bacon, potato, carrot and celery in a creamy broth (this is a standout dish).
There are so many great starters, we recommend ordering a selection to share, including the beautiful Charcuterie and Cheese with Genoa salami, capicola, prosciutto, brie, classic aged cheddar and Bleu Bénédictin with cranberry and hazelnut crisps; buttermilk fried Korean Crispy Chicken Bites with gochujang glaze and rice wine pickles; and Grandma Rosie’s Turkey Meatballs in tomato sauce with caramelized onion, herb ricotta cheese and torn brioche.
Honey Salt is open for dinner Sunday to Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with the bar and lounge open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Happy hour runs daily from 3 to 5 p.m.
