We explore vintage Vancouver with a view of the West End circa 1957
The stunning ‘West End from Burrard Bridge’ (above) is just one example of Vancouver photographer Fred Herzog’s talent. The octogenarian, who was awarded the Audain Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the Visual Arts in 2014, has an uncanny knack for capturing the spirit of the city. And while it’s a little sad to see so many high-rises replace the homes that populated the West End in 1957, it’s always thrilling to see how much Vancouver has evolved in the last 50+ years.
